If at first you are unsuccessful, try again. Just one year after failing to win the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Writing Netflix’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7”, Aaron Sorkin is back and competes once again to become the last screenwriter to win both Academy Awards for screenplay. This time, he is eligible to write the screenplay for the upcoming film “Being the Ricardos”.
Movie stars Nicole kidman and Javier bardem like Lucille ball and Desi Arnaz, respectively, and depicts the personal and professional relationships between the married couple and the “I Love Lucy” co-stars during a particularly busy week in 1952. The first reactions to the film have been overwhelmingly positive, with many critics praising Kidman’s performance. The film currently occupies sixth place in Gold Derby Combined Odds for Best Original Screenplay at 14/1, but it’s been rising lately, and it’s expected to continue rising once the film begins its limited theatrical release on December 10 before arriving on Prime Video on December 21.
Right now, however, Paul thomas andersonComing-of-age movie “Licorice Pizza” leads the field with a 4/1 rating, and seven pundits and seven publishers predict it will triumph over the competition. During this time, Kenneth branagh‘S’ Belfast ‘sits comfortably in second at 9/2 with nine experts and two editors going all out. The rest of the first five are completed by the Zach baylin-written “King Richard” (odds 13/2), Adam mckaythe last comedy of “Don’t Look Up” (7/1) and Fran kranzThe emotional debut film of “Mass” (8/1).

If Sorkin won the Oscar on March 27, he would become the 14th person in history to win both the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay, as he won the latter for writing ” The Social Network “in 2010. Those who have accomplished the impressive feat are Robert benton, Charles Brackett, Paddy chayefsky, Francis Ford Coppola, Horton foote, Bo Goldman, William goldman, Lardner Jr ring., Alan jay lerner, Waldo salt, Billy Wilder, and Joel and Ethan Coen, the last two winners together for their films “Fargo” (1996) and “No Country for Old Men” (2007).
Of course, Sorkin isn’t the only person who could potentially join the exclusive screenwriters club this year. Jane campion, who wrote and directed “The Power of the Dog”, could also go down in history by becoming the first woman to win both screenplay awards. She is in the running for the Oscar for best adapted screenplay, having already won the original screenplay for writing “The Piano” (1993).
