The complete program of artists from Elvis the soundtrack has been revealed and featured artists include EminemSteve Nicks, Tame the impala, Kacey MusgravesJack White and more.
Earlier this month it was reported that Musgraves will cover Elvis PresleyThe classic 1961 hit, “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” for the soundtrack to the upcoming biopic. The film is directed by Baz Luhrmann (Romeo + Juliet by William Shakespeare, Moulin Rouge!, The descent). Musgraves confirmed the details in an interview with Variety at the Met Gala.
Elvis is set to premiere at the 75th Cannes Film Festival this week, while the film is set to hit theaters on June 24. Actor Austin Butler (Carrie’s notebooks) will star as the legendary icon, with Tom Hanks playing Presley’s longtime manager Col. Tom Parker. Other cast members in the film include Richard Roxburgh, Luke Bracey, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Olivia DeJonge. Production has revealed a new trailer, which you can watch above.
“In this modern era, the life of Elvis Presley couldn’t be a better canvas for exploring 1950s, 60s, 70s America,” Luhrmann previously shared in a statement. “It was 42 years, but it’s three beautiful lives rolled into one. What’s extraordinary is that life is culturally central to the 50s, socially to the 60s, and even the 70s.”
Musgraves, meanwhile, has had a busy year. The country star kicked off 2022 with a North American tour in support of her critically acclaimed fifth studio album, damn. In March, Musgraves was honored as one of WEATHERwomen of the year, and performed at the gala. Last month, she also received the Vanguard Award at the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards.
Looking ahead, Musgraves is set to play a number of festivals throughout the summer, including Glastonbury in the UK, Roskilde in Denmark and the new Palomino Party in California.
