Great news for all Marvel fans! A fourth “Captain America” movie is on the way. Marvel Studios hired “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” (FAWS) lead writer Malcolm Spellman to write the script for the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spellman will co-write the screenplay with Dalan Musson, a “FAWS” screenwriter. No cast for the project is officially known, but Friday’s episode of ‘FAWS’ offered plenty of routes for the feature film.
So far, actor Chris Evans has played Captain America through the character of Steve Rogers, appearing in a trio of solo films, “Avengers” releases, and an assortment of other Marvel films. And the question of who has the right to wear the shield or to be Captain America was at the heart of the series. The upcoming feature film will likely continue the story of Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, and the current shield bearer. But as the writers get to work, it’ll be interesting to see how the story unfolds with several people who have been Captain Americas in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
No director is currently attached to the upcoming project, and Evans’ involvement or return remains unconfirmed. Evans has featured in three previous “Captain America” films, including “Captain America: The First Avenger” (2011), “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” (2014) and “Captain America: Civil War” (2016) , and retired the role with ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
When events pick up in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” Wilson chooses to relinquish the title of Captain America so that the government turns the role over to John Walker (Wyatt Russell), a white member of the military. Spellman was previously screenwriter / co-executive producer on Fox’s “Empire” and also acted as a consultant producer on crime drama “Truth Be Told” before having the chance to take the helm of the “Falcon” series.
Musson was the credited author of what is considered one of the most powerful episodes in the series: the fifth episode, titled “Truth.” His previous credit was on ‘Iron Sky: The Coming Race’, a Nazi-centric action thriller on the moon. (ANI)
