New Orleans soundtrack stars Irma Thomas, Neville Brothers, Galactic and more

An original soundtrack for the next documentary Take me to the river: New Orleans features new recordings from Irma Thomas, the Neville brothers, Snoop Dogg, Ani DiFranco, Dumpstaphunk and many more. Released by Petaluma Records on April 1, the collection of 26 songs premiered with the release today of the lead single “Act Like You Know” featuring Dee-1, Mannie Fresh, Big Freedia and Galactic.

Directed by Martin Shore, Take me to the river: New Orleans explores the rich musical history of Crescent City, the influence of New Orleans, and the culture and heritage of The Big Easy. Shore had previously examined Memphis’ musical influence in his 2014 documentary Take me to the river. “Memphis told the story of American music. New Orleans is a story of creating world music, ”Martin Shore said of his upcoming film.

Soul Rebels, Williams Bell, Ledisi, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Anders Osborne, Donald Harrison, Walter “Wolfman” Washington, George Porter Jr. and Eric krasno are among other musicians who have contributed to the Take me to the river: New Orleans soundtrack. Additionally, the compilation includes new recordings of the latest Neville Brothers performances and music from one of the last Dr John’s last sessions in the studio. Take me to the river: New Orleans will arrive in multiple formats, including CD, digitally and via a luxury vinyl box set including 2 LPs and a 60-page book.
