“It’s a lot of ’80s hair metal but it’s also a lot of’ sleaze rock ‘and hair metal that comes from Europe. It was fun finding the really good things to infuse the show with its flavor, which we kept throughout the first season. “
Peacemaker stars the main character John Cena from The suicide squad, an obscure DC Comics assassin obsessed with keeping the peace by any violent means necessary. As befits a hero (or villain?) With such a grand identity, the show’s soundtrack is almost exclusively made up of Whitesnake-style glam glam. (It also features an opening credits musical sequence that is pure schlocky televised nirvana.)
During the panel, Gunn recounted the circumstances that led to Peacemaker in the first place. When the executive of Warner Bros. DC’s Peter Safran and Walter Hamada approached Gunn to ask The suicide squad character around whom he would most like to build a spin-off, there is only one that comes to mind.
“I just found something really interesting about Peacemaker, both because I loved working with John Cena and because I thought he had a lot of acting and comedy skills that we don’t have. could not fully utilize in the movie, ”Gunn said. “I thought he was just a really cool, interesting character that could be relevant to today’s world, in terms of how he sees it upside down.”
Cena’s Christopher Smith aka Peacemaker does indeed have a way of looking at it upside down. Coming from a poor background with a father (played by Robert Patrick) who frankly does not like or even does not love his son, Chris does not capture social graces well. Nor is he what one might call particularly politically correct.
“Its blind spots, in some places, are pretty terrible. And then, in a certain place, it’s just him who’s ignorant. Peacemaker is almost every guy I grew up with in Missouri, ”Gunn said.
