Calcutta, September 6, 2021: The International Institute of Photography and the Arts in Calcutta (IIPK) hosted a panel discussion on THE IMPACT OF THE PANDEMIC ON FILMS AND CINEMA as part of its Celebrations of the Month of the Foundation, and in memory of its founder, a distinguished photographer and mentor, the late Sanat Ghosh.

Panelists included prominent actress Rituparna Sengupta, patron of IIPK, acclaimed cinematographer and director Premendu Bikash Chaki and famous look planner Aniruddha Chakladar, both faculty members of IIPK. Panelists fondly remembered Sanat Ghosh and spoke of his excellent qualities of a head and heart, and how his invaluable advice, guidance and love has helped them not only in their careers, but also in that of many others. His willingness to help others clearly reflected his kindness as a human being.

During the panel discussion, Rituparna Sengupta, Premendu Bikash Chaki and Aniruddha Chakladar explained in detail how the COVID 19 pandemic has affected cinema and the film industry in general; at the same time, they attached great importance to always having a positive attitude and stressed that efforts should be made to carefully identify ways and means to deal with the impact of the pandemic, so that all who are industry-related benefit directly or indirectly from the long term. Rituparna Sengupta said that “the pandemic has certainly had a negative impact on the film industry, but I am optimistic that we can get back to normal soon.” While questioning whether OTT platforms could ever attract moviegoers to movie theaters, Premendra Bikash Chaki said: “The experience of watching a movie on the big screen is so exhilarating that no other format can ever take them away. movie theaters. . “The plight of workers in the film industry, as well as those who work in jatra and theater, were discussed in detail. Aniruddha Chakladar also expressed his opinion, indicating the difficulties encountered in planning the appearance of the shoots. He said work has resumed and hopes full-fledged work will start soon.
